We all deal with stress, some more than others.  For most, however, the workplace is the most stressful of all.  Whether due to workload, job security, pay rates or other personal issues, chances are that work related stress will affect you and your family at some point.  Here are some tips to reduce that stress at the workplace:

1. BREATHE: Breathing is probably the best way to relieve stress.  Our bodies release adrenaline and other hormones when stressed, which raises blood pressure and can cause that stressed out feeling.Take a step back, and give yourself a breathing break -- focus on deep breathing, exhaling completely.
2. Create a calm working atmosphere: Surround your work space with things you enjoy. Have a picture or trinkets near you to remind you of happy things in order to escape the stress during the day. If your work area permits it, have relaxing music that gets your spirits up playing during stressful times.
3. Take a break: Even if for just a ten minute break, take it.  Walk around your building, text your mom, or even enjoy a small snack somewhere private.  Breaks from work, especially at high stress moments, are essential for maintaining a healthy working attitude.
4. Connect with others: Socialization and personal interaction is essential in making positive connections with the people we work with. Being able to connect with co-workers on a non-professional level helps to maintain cool heads during stressful times.  
5. Exercise: Getting even a little exercise can rid your body of stress.  Whether at home before work, on a lunch break, or after work, getting exercise will help reduce stress levels.  Give it a try!
6. Eat stress-reducing food: That is right, some foods can help with stress!  Even if you are already a healthy eater, consider eating an orange on the way to work.  Vitamin C can help the body cope with stress!
7. Ergonomics: Is your seating comfortable?  What about your desk and arrangement of your computer and keyboard?  Take a look at your workspace.  Studies suggest moving around a lot during the day to avoid sitting in the same positions for long periods of time.
8. Organize your day: The act of writing down a list of things you must do can help organize your thoughts and keep you focused, which will decrease your stress. Being organized can help keep you from distractions that can make you feel overwhelmed.  Clean up your clutter and feel better!
9.  There is an App for that: In today's high tech world, there are actually de-stressing apps available that you can download to use during high stress moments. Who knew?!
